KENNETH COLE Talks at The National Arts Club

reporter: Miguel Dominguez

To commemorate the publication of This Is A Kenneth Cole Production (2013, Rizzoli) written by Kenneth Cole and Lisa Birnbach, with contribution by Diane Von Furstenberg, Joe Zee and Bill Clinton, the National Arts Club Fashion Committee presented an evening with Kenneth Cole on January 24th.

This Is A Kenneth Cole Production is the first and definitive book on the fashion of Kenneth Cole and his thirty year career in fashion and social activism. His footwear and fashion design capture the New York style. Kenneth Cole jump started his fashion business in the most unorthodox of ways: he created a film set and pretended to make a film in order to gain access to New York Market Week. In two and a half days, Kenneth Cole Productions sold 40,000 pairs of shoes. Moments like this are par for the course when viewing Cole’s career, a truly original yet classic American success story.

SANDRA SIMONATO BLEI: M.A.D. preview sale

reporter: Miguel Dominguez

It was while covering the Suzanne Tucker book signing event earlier in November, that I met Elaine Taylor-Gordon, owner of Flashforce LLC. When I complemented her on the beautiful necklace she was wearing, she informed me it was designed by her Milanese friend Sandra Simonato Blei, who was coming to New york in order to introduce her new jewelry collection at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD).

Then Elaine invited me to come and cover her event honoring Sandra in a few days hence, November 14th to be precise, when she would be arranging a private, women only, networking get together, that would be offering for sale some Sandra's pieces from her extensive collection.

HYLAND MAGAZINE Awards

reporter: Miguel Dominguez

The trophies being quite sizable and beautiful, Christopher Hyland told the
anecdote in his opening speech of Bad Boy Mario Buatta, who promptly turned
the one he got from a past award into a lamp base, to the hilarity of all present.

Exactly one week before the opening of Holiday House, on November 13, Hyland Magazine, whose Editor-in-Chief is Christopher Hyland, also President of Hyland Textiles, and also co-chair of Holiday House NYC had its annual awards ceremony which recognizes prominent talent in the Architecture/Interior Design industries.

The event took place at the most exquisitely put together Bar Room, a rather atmospheric and intimate American Bistro in New York's favorite area for the "Ladies Who Lunch", around the corner from Bloomingdale.

HOLIDAY HOUSE Kick Off Party

On October 22nd, the Holiday House NYC benefit for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation had its kick off party at the Academy Mansion, where the show house takes place every year. It's a nice gathering for the people and companies from all the architecture and interior decor related industries involved, before they start the hard, exhausting work of putting each of the rooms together.

Holiday House will run from November 21st to December 18th, with their Gala Opening on November 20th, which I already covered and will be posting in the near future with a link to this article as well.

CHRISTIE'S: POST-WAR AND CONTEMPORARY ART On Line Auction

reporter: Miguel Dominguez
text: Christie's

On November 10, Chrisite's New York had a veritable mob scene in their premises on Rockefeller Center with their preview of the kind of art even the MoMA would find difficult putting together in a special exhibit. I literally had to wait till the last half hour, when the event was winding down, in order to take a few shots of the extraordinary amount of art being auctioned off. A few of the works being sold were Warhols, Basquiats, Harrings, a Lichtenstein, Indianas, a Stella, a Cindy Sherman and a Koons Balloon Dog, displayed on the sidewalk, and chosen by Christie's as the logo for the up coming auction, with canvas bags and t-shirts featuring the sculpture, and real ballon dogs, being given away to a very delighted public.

On 12 November 2013 this painting, "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" set the record
as the most expensive piece of art ever auctioned, selling for $142,405,000
