Megan and Joey — After

On account of M.A.C. Cosmetics honoring Joey Mills for his long time achievements, "M.A.C. Salutes,” an event held at in New York City last May, Make-Up Artist Magazine decided to do an article and front cover story about him, "Joey Mills: King of the Fashion Covers," in their Sept./Oct. 2011 issue. From that article came about Joey's appearance on April 14th as a featured speaker at the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS).

Joey is the author of  "New Classic Beauty,” and he is considering ideas for another book on Bridal Make-Up, a future publication that has everyone in the know eagerly awaiting.

Joey's technique creates the look of great bone structure. He might do 20 things in making up a face, but that fact is not at all obvious when you view the finished face. On any woman, the result makes them look their most beautiful. On supermodels like Kim Alexis, Carol Alt, Beverly Johnson and Brooke Shields, the result is over 2000 covers on the most prestigious fashion magazines in the world (Vogue, Bazaar, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, etc.) and some of the most iconic ad campaigns ever.  Not to mention runway shows for Calvin Klein, Valentino, Versace, Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta, makeup design for Broadway shows and television events, such as the job he did very recently on architectural historian Victoria Newhouse, wife of Condé Nast publications chairman SI Newhouse, for her interview in the Charlie Rose show on PBS. Joey also played himself as a makeup artist, and did the make up, in the Faye Dunaway film "The Eyes of Laura Mars" which has quite a cult following in the fashion world.

Today, Joey concentrates his work on private clients. He is also working on a line of makeup kits and other beauty essentials—concealer kits, the right brushes, perfect lipstick shades, Joey's special under-makeup moisturizer—that will bring Joey's mastery of makeup application and color choices to a much broader market.

I love Joey.
He's got an incredible memory. He actually remembers a fashion photographer I assisted back in '75-'76, whose existence no one else alive even knows about.
