A CHRISTMAS CAROL

reporter: Miguel Dominguez

David "Zen" Mansley offers a "Bah Humbug" to the audience

On December 22, the weekend before Christmas, Theater for the New City presented for the fourth year A CHRISTMAS CAROL, based on the classic story by Charles Dickens. The show is adapted, designed and directed by David “Zen” Mansley, who also plays the lead role of Ebenezer Scrooge.

James-Wilkie Broderick, who played the role of Tiny Tim, here in the arms of his dad Matthew

Actor, director and designer David "Zen" Mansley produced and starred in Macbeth at the Celtic Arts Center in Los Angeles receiving a rave review from the LA Times. The production was extended twice and ran for two and a half months to packed houses. He also is known internationally for his character voice work on such cartoon series as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Chaotic, and Speed Racer: The Next Generation. During his years in Los Angeles, he worked in special effects building miniatures for such blockbuster movies as Terminator 2: Judgement Day, X-2: X-Men United, and Bram Stoker's Dracula.

The show aims to demonstrate why people should be kinder to one another. This production is put on as a benefit for Theater for the New City and all the performers, artisans and technicians are volunteering their time.

THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY was founded in 1970 by Crystal Field to realize clear
purposes and goals: To embody the vision of a center for new and innovative theater arts that would be truly accessible to the community and its experimental theater artists. To discover relevant new writing and to nurture new playwrights. To be a bridge between playwright, experimental theater artist, and the ever growing audiences in the community. To create spaces where a new vision can breathe and be nourished by a working process not subject to commercial constraints and pressures. To create events and ways in which to bring theater into the community and bring the community into the theater.

Now in its 40th year, THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY is a unique Cultural Institution that
has earned a nationwide reputation for its dedication to nurturing established and emerging
playwrights who experiment with new forms and to presenting other experimental and
