GLOBAL HOME Grand NY Opening

reporter/photographer: Miguel Dominguez

On April 30th, the grand opening of the Global Home New York showroom took place around the corner from the Flatiron Building, in one of the two neighborhoods in New York City where purveyors of the Interior Decor industry concentrate their showrooms.

From January 2000 to April 2001, owners Joe and Vivian embarked on a journey that changed their lives. They decided to quit corporate jobs in New York City, sold their belongings, and traveled, with not much more than a large backpack, through 21 countries on six continents, where they also saw innumerable great stuff and how it was made and distributed to the world. The seed for Global Home was planted.

Returning from this life-altering journey, they resumed their careers (Joe as Executive Marketing Director of Vogue Magazine, Vivian as an art director with clients such as Assouline Publishing and Martha Stewart Omnimedia), they fell in love with country living and saw the chance to follow another dream. While living a quiet life in the country, Joe and Vivian could hop around the world and curate the best & most interesting items in home design as a way to make a living.

That was when Global Home was born. Nestled in a small resort town in upstate New York, the couple began selling imported furniture and home decor from around the world, promoting a style that is internationally inspired yet fresh. They like to call it "Modern Exotic", which incorporates "Catskill Modern, Global Voyage, Luxe, Mid-Century Modern, and Rustic & Industrial"
