A NIGHT IN THE UKRAINE: Fashions

On March 28, the Fashion Committee at the National Arts Club arranged a discussion and a runway presentation celebration of Ukrainian fashions featuring the collections of Oksana Karavanska, Nataliya Kholodylo and Elena Vasilevsky.

Oksana Karavanska, closely followed by Nataliya Kholodylo, the designer for the second show of the evening

Oksana Karavanska has been hailed as the “Go-To Designer” in her native country, appearing regularly on television as a respected fashion judge/commentator and counts politicians, royalty and celebrities among her clientele. Since 1998 she has shown at Ukrainian Fashion Week and in 2002 received the Grand Prix at the Crystal Silhouette Competition for the best dress of the year. She opened her namesake boutique in Kiev in 2004.

Known for her innovative and edgy designs, Elena Vasilevsky, designer and founder of Elena V Designs, was born in Ukraine and raised in New York. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology and has shown her collections at Lincoln Center as part of Fashion Week. She is known for her conceptual mixture of patterns and textures, combined with asymmetric silhouettes and fine craftsmanship.

After the Show guests stayed to celebrate with refreshments imported
exclusively for the evening, Sampling Varnenyky, a Ukrainian dumplings dish that was a
part of the Champagne reception catered by Ukranian restaurant Veselka
