On October 17th at Baker Furniture and then again on the 18th at ABC Carpet & Home, Award-winning designer Barbara Barry was at hand to sign her first published book Barbara Barry: Around Beauty.

Barbara Barry’s work has long been praised for its quiet refinement, soothing palette, and graceful furnishings, as well as for its ravishing tailoring and coloring.

In this, her first book, Barry explores her design philosophy, meditating on the transformative power of beauty. Her principles of good design—simplicity, proportion, and harmony—are clearly explored and helps the reader discover how to apply these principles to their home interiors and lives.

Through page after page of gorgeous, subtle, feminine interiors, Barry explains her design process and shares thought-provoking stories. She discusses what inspires her, from the quality of light to the colors of nature, and illustrates how she utilizes nature in decoration.

From the simple strength of a white plate to the sensual elegance of a well-made bed, Barry explains why a gracious, well-ordered life around beauty is the only one worth living.  Comprehensive and beautifully designed, this unique book is a collector’s piece for all design fans.

Award-winning designer Barbara Barry founded her Los Angeles–based interior design firm in 1985. She holds licensing arrangements with such manufacturers as Baker Furniture, (HBF) Hickory Business Furniture, McGuire Furniture, Boyd Lighting, Kravet Fabrics, Tufenkian Tibetan Carpets, Barbara Barry Dream Sheeting, and Baccarat Crystal.

In her book, Barbara shows how she finds inspiration in the world around her. Color palettes are often created by looking out the windows of a client’s home. In fact, Barry always has a watercolor kit with her when she travels so that she can design products as ideas come to her.
