This year, the upcoming 28th Annual Harriman Cup Polo Match will be on Saturday, September 8th at the Meadowbrook Polo Club.
For this reason, on July 18th, Alton Lane and The Harriman Cup Board invited a choice gathering of friends and customers to an evening of complimentary specialty cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and curated fashion looks for followers of "The Sport of Kings."
Celebrating over a quarter-century of polo tradition between the University of Virginia and Yale, the Harriman Cup Polo Match is a fundraiser and social event founded in 1984 to commemorate the life of W. Averell Harriman, a 1913 Yale graduate and polo player, who was the former Governor of New York, former U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain and the Soviet Union, and was the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Truman.
The Harriman Cup is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of polo and supporting the collegiate polo programs at Yale and UVa. The organization has raised over $600,000 for the schools’ undergraduate polo teams. The Harriman Cup is active throughout the year and sponsors other events as well.
The Harriman Cup Award honors stellar individuals who have made huge contributions to the world of polo, and who embody the leadership, public service, and staunch advocacy and support for equestrian sports that were characteristics of Averell Harriman.
This year's Harriman Cup Award recipients will be Nic Roldan and David Walentas.
